There are a couple of methods on how to fix this issue...
> 1) Manually take your Hard Drive out of your system and reformat it.
> 2) Possibly pay about $150.00[USD] to Sony for repairs. (1-800-345-SONY)
> 3) Buy a new Hard Drive.
or
> 4) If you can get to the XMB, wait for the next update to be released.
If you have outdated SKU like 20, 60 or 80, you can't get a warranty
for them. Instead they could possibly give you the 40GB and perhaps a
$100.00 to $200.00[USD] gift card.
My Advice to you is to Contact Sony Tech Support at 1-800-345-SONY (7669) and see what they can do about it.

If it dosent work try opening these ports:
* TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
* UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, 10070, and 50100
Also, I Just want to clear something up. I hear that people are thinking that NAT 1 is better than NAT 2. Infact NAT 1, 2 and 3 are all the same..
NAT1: Direct Connection withought a router
NAT2: Direct Connection when going through the router
NAT3: Indirect or Unstable Connection when going through the router
Nat 1 and 2 have no preformance difference, when Nat type 3 will disable some features. I just wanted to clear that up.

I use mine for everything so I set the settings below:

How to Restore Default Settings for the PS3
1. From the XMB home menu, go to Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings.

2. Once you select [Restore Default Settings], you will see a list of settings that will be restored. Scroll through them and press the X button to restore the settings.

3. After the operation is complete, you will see the initial setup screen that appeared the first time you turned on the PLAYSTATION IMPORTANT The Restore Default Settings feature will erase any previously saved settings and restore all of the following settings to the default:
* BD/DVD Settings
* Music Settings
* Chat Settings
* System Settings
* Date and Time Settings
* Accessory Settings
* Display Settings
* Sound Settings
* Security Settings
* Network Settings

Also, do not confuse [Restore Default Settings] with the [Restore PS3 System] option (the next option down on the menu). The [Restore PS3 System] will not only restore the default settings, but it will also delete all hard disk content. (You will lose all saved content from your
PS3 system's hard drive if you use [Restore PS3 System].)
